A movement beyond open source

The code is free.
The service is free fair.

nosource builds genuinely useful software with AI and releases it free of charge — zero license fee, ever — under the nosource agreement. The paid value moves to people: a community of registered service providers whose hourly rates are published before you engage them.

The manifesto — plays silently; press play for sound.

“The software costs nothing. The service is honest, human, and priced in the open. AI does not replace the provider — it gives them superpowers.”

The end of source

No code. No source. Only intent.

Programming was born of punch cards and tape — logic persisted as copyrighted source code. nosource keeps none of it. You express what you mean, and AI weaves your intent into whole, working systems — a mature framework, not chat, that makes the hard part simple. That is the literal meaning of no·source.

The three commitments

A different bargain for software

Never charged for

Software released under nosource carries no license fee, no seat cost, no paywall. Price at the point of code is fixed, permanently, at zero.

Priced before you engage

Every registered provider publishes an hourly rate before a client begins. No opaque quotes, no lock-in — support you can compare in the open.

Superpowers, not substitution

AI develops and supports the work so providers move beyond writing code to automating intent — serving more patrons, better, for less.

Why go beyond open source

Open source freed the code. It never fixed who pays for the care.

The open-source revolution made source available to everyone — and left the people who maintain it structurally unpaid. Companies commoditized the code and sold the subscription. It worked, until the incentives frayed: relicensing fights, burned-out maintainers, and a single volunteer becoming a supply-chain risk to the world.

nosource keeps the software free of charge and rebuilds the economics around the one thing that was always scarce and always valuable — trustworthy human service, now amplified by AI.

01

The maintainer gap

Critical infrastructure is maintained by a few, funded by almost no one — a documented sustainability crisis.

02

The relicensing whiplash

When the support model breaks, projects retreat behind restrictive licenses. Trust is the casualty.

03

The service is opaque

“Call us for a quote” pricing keeps clients in the dark and small providers out of the market.

How nosource works

Free software, first-option community, open pricing

Software ships free

A tool is developed with AI and released under the nosource agreement — no charge, ever, to use it.

Your community gets first option

The agreement asks patrons to offer their community the first opportunity to provide support.

Providers publish their rate

Every provider states an hourly rate up front. You compare and choose in the open — never a surprise invoice.

Need more? Registered providers step in

If the community can't cover it, additional providers registered with nosource.ai are engaged — held to the same transparency.

A circle of people around an ember flame within concentric rings — community-first support widening to registered providers.

For service providers

This is your market. AI is your leverage.

Register with nosource.ai to be listed as a provider, publish your rate, and put AI to work automating intent for the patrons you serve.
